Graduation Day ~ Saying Goodbye
Today my students graduated from middle school and are moving on to high school. It was interesting to see how the Koreans do their graduation ceremonies. They start much the same way as at home, a short speech, diplomas, awards, more speeches and a song to close. A few things I noticed, greetings are of course different, handshakes and bows. The graduating students all bow to the junior grades before they leave the room. Outside in the hallway the students all walk by and shake hands or bow to their teachers.
I finished co-teaching yesterday and it has left me feeling strange, after a difficult year I’ve decided to transfer to another school. So I likely won’t see these people any more. It’s one of the more difficult parts of living abroad. Everything is temporary, when you move on to somewhere else you leave friends and acquaintances behind, taking only memories of good times and bad. Of course with technology the ties aren’t completely severed. But emails, phone calls and facebook are no substitutes for having good friends at your side. So I spent my morning getting some photos with my students, I already miss them.
