The Unvacation

The Unvacation

While working in Korea, I used to use the terms winter/summer unvacation to describe my time off. Usually, during vacations in Korea, I would have to do summer and winter English camps. Later after I left Korea, I’d spend my holidays working on my masters. This past summer felt a bit like another unvacation. I went back to Canada for 6 days that were split between Toronto and Rockglen. During the trip, I got good news about two jobs I applied for back in May. Both employers were interested! However, one of the jobs had a bunch of French language screening requirements. My French was pretty good back in high school (20 years ago), but I knew I’d need to put in some serious practice ahead of the test. Over the next 2 and a half weeks, I spent between 4 and 5 hours each day studying. When the time came to take the French tests, I passed my reading but flunked my writing. It may not have been the result I wanted, but in the end, I’m proud of the effort I put in, and I can say without a doubt that I did my best under the circumstances.
